What We Do

The Hancock County Visitors Bureau Inc. is charged with promoting the cultural, historical, artistic and commercial amenities of Hancock County, Indiana, for the purpose of increasing tourism, visitation, conventions and participation in various special events for the economic benefit of Hancock County and the enrichment of quality of life issues for visitors and residents alike.

Located in historic Hancock County, the bureau is conscious of the community’s links to the history and development of early Indiana. The county seat, Greenfield, is bisected by the Historic National Road (U.S. 40) and much of its downtown area has been recognized as a National Register Historic District. Greenfield is the site of Hoosier Poet James Whitcomb Riley’s boyhood home and takes much of its character from the influence of Riley’s legacy and the Victorian era in which he lived.

Hancock County, a rapidly growing area, is also home to an active and expanding arts community and is the site of Greenfield’s annual Riley Festival, one of the largest festivals of its kind in Indiana.

The Bureau is actively working to develop and promote additional arts/cultural events and facilities that will enhance the local experience for all who visit or reside in our community. Reports indicate that the artistic and cultural amenities within a community are increasingly being considered as businesses look to expand or relocate into a given area. These quality of life issues, such as the renovated and restored H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts, can serve to improve life for local residents, attract new visitors to the community, provide reasons for frequent visitors to extend their stays and provide additional cultural incentives as economic development officials promote the community to prospective businesses and industries.
